'F' is for... Fearless!

Fearless!

According to the Oxford Dictionary the word 'fear' stands for an 'unpleasant emotion caused by the threat of danger, pain or harm'. Moreover, the word 'fear' comes from the Old English  fǣr, which means 'calamity, danger';  fǣran 'frighten', also 'revere', of Germanic origin; related to Dutch gevaar and German  Gefahr 'danger'.

This is to say that when we feel scared, it is because we are frightened by a possible situation of danger. Mostly, it is because we think that a possible danger, or a negative consequence might occur from that. Therefore, we lose ourselves in hamletic doubts regarding possible actions.
"Should I do that?Maybe not...", or as The Clash were singing, "Should I stay or should I go now?".

Everyone, at least once in a lifetime, has found himself in a situation as such. However, despite of doubts, fear, and uncontrolled flow of emotions, fear is not always negative, au contraire, it can be useful in plenty of situations.

Innanzitutto, Felice Anno Nuovo miei carissimi amici! Spero davvero che il 2015 possa essere il vostro anno fortunato e che possiate realizzare ogni vostro più recondito desiderio! 

So benissimo che questo augurio, a questo punto dell'anno, possa sembrare un attimino fuori luogo, tuttavia, ci tenevo davvero ad aprire questo nuovo anno con un augurio per tutti voi!

I will not write or add anything more because I believe her story to be something to be inspired by.
I am really grateful to Chloe, and especially I am really glad she shared her story with all of us.

B come Bryson

"Mi piacerebbe condividere con voi uno dei miei ricordi migliori", così scrive il protagonista della storia di oggi.
"L'ho incontrata durante una festa in cui entrambi eravamo brilli, ma non così tanto da rendere impossibile il ricordare qualcosa il giorno seguente. Non so ancora spiegare esattamente cosa accadde.
Ricordo, quasi come fossero impressi in modo indelebile nella mia mente, il suo sorriso, i suoi occhi. Ci siamo incontrati in un contesto non proprio romantico. Ma lei era lì in quel preciso istante in cui il destino decise di farci incontrare. Continuo a chiedermi cosa sarebbe accaduto se non ci fossimo incontrati in quell'esatto secondo o, se in quel preciso istante, non fosse apparsa su quella scalinata.
Questi tre anni, probabilmente, non sarebbero mai esistiti. Sono felice di averla incontrata. Sono grato che sia ancora parte della mia vita".

'Serendipità' è un concetto introdotto da Horace Walpole, usato per identificare i protagonisti di una favola intitolata "I tre prìncipi di Serendippo". In particolare, degno di nota è che i personaggi si differenziavano per il loro scoprire, fortuitamente, cose di cui non erano alla ricerca. 
Quindi, sia Bryson che la sua ragazza, non erano alla ricerca l'uno dell'altra, o dell'amore, ma forse si stavano aspettando a vicenda. Serendipità o no, tutto accade per una ragione, e la felicità è, a volte, così inaspettata, che è possibile incontrarla dietro un angolo o, nel caso del nostro amico, alla fine di una scalinata.

B is for Bryson

"I would like to share with you" he writes "one of my best memories".
"I met her during a party in which both she and I were high, but not too much that it could have been impossible, the day after, to remember anything. I still don't know what happened. In my mind, only her smile, her eyes. We met in a context which was not to be considered romantic or whatever. But she was there, and we met in a precise time. I keep asking myself what would have happened if we wouldn't have met in that precise moment, or if in that precise moment she would have decided not to go downstairs: these last three years, probably, would have never ever existed. So, I am glad I met her. I am glad she is still a part of my life."

'Serendipity' as concept has been introduced by Horace Walpole and used to describe the heroes of a fairytale called "The three princes of Serendip". In particular noteworthy is that its characters were used to find out what they needed even though they were not in quest of it, by accidents.  
So, both Bryson and his girlfriend, were not looking for each other or for love, but maybe they have been waiting for each other for a long time and now they are together. Serendipity or not, everything happens for a reason, and happiness is so unexpected that sometimes, we can just " find her " behind a corner, or in our friend's case, at the end of a staircase.

A come Alice

Alice ama essere inglese. Sorride. Forse, perché non sa cosa dire o di cosa parlare o, magari, è stata colta alla sprovvista dalle mie domande. I capelli biondi le contornano il viso, adesso rosso per l'imbarazzo, prima di perdersi tra i suoi pensieri.
"Dunque..." ha esordito improvvisamente "Mi piace la nostra storia, la libertà che abbiamo, il nostro essere un 'calderone di etnie' ".
Alice pensa che ciò che la gente chiama differenze, non dovrebbero essere considerate come tali. A dire il vero,  si dissocia completamente da tutti quegli stereotipi inventati dalla gente e diretti verso i più svariati gruppi etnici. 
Alice, afferma di essere una sostenitrice del 'multiculturalismo'.
Ciò di cui si lamenta, riguarda il fatto che "i telegiornali non parlano di ciò che di positivo abbiamo qui in Inghilterra. Piuttosto, parlano solo di ciò che negativo accade." Un esempio? "Noi ci occupiamo molto di beneficenza. Ci sono tante cose che facciamo anche nel quotidiano. Credo sia un modo di pensare", afferma.
Infatti, Alice ha fatto volontariato nel centro giovani della sua città, ha trascorso qualche settimana in Kenya insegnando inglese e lavorato in un orfanotrofio in Marocco.
Non appartiene certamente a quelle persone che ritengono che culture diverse non possano essere considerate come una. Alice supporta un sistema basato sull'uguaglianza, in cui tutti possano gustare un pezzo della magnifica e saporita torta che è il nostro mondo. Per far sì che questo avvenga, dobbiamo farlo insieme. In ogni momento.

A is for Alice.

Alice likes being British. She said that with a smile. Maybe because she didn't know what to say or what to talk about, as she found the questions to be unexpected. Her blonde hair were sorrounding her face, now reddish before she lost herself in her thought.
"Well..." suddenly she said "I like the history, the freedom we have, our being 'multicultural' ".
According to Alice, those which are deliberately known as differences aren't to be defined as such. Actually, she completely disagrees with all kind of stereotypes which are created and directed to that ethnic group or others. She is a firm believer of this "melting pot culture"
Furthermore, she complaints about the fact that "the news don't talk about all the positive things we have here. The positive things that we do. Only bad things." An example? "We care about charity. There are things that we do in our daily life. It's a way of thinking,I guess", she affirmed.

In fact, Alice volounteered in her local youth center, she also spent few weeks in Kenya teaching english and worked in an orphanage in Morocco as well.
She doesn't belong to those people who believe that different cultures cannot be one. She is a supporter of an equality system, in which all of us can eat a piece of the wonderful tasty cake which is our world. In doing so, we can do it together. Anytime.

Sono felice di annunciarvi la creazione di una nuova sezione: "Stories&People".
In particolare, ho deciso di inaugurarla con una nuova rubrica intitolata dalla A alla Z:

"From A to Z"

Ogni settimana, ogni giovedì, condividerò con voi una storia, un pensiero che qualcuno, a sua volta, ha deciso o deciderà di condividere con me e, ovviamente, con voi. Ogni storia cercherà di trasmettere qualcosa di positivo, di buono. Il principale argomento sarà la vostra vita, qualcosa riguardante la vostra cultura, un ricordo, un desiderio, un pensiero semplice ma personale.
Chi può partecipare? Chiunque.
Potete scrivermi sia in Italiano che in Inglese e mandare la vostra storia a:

Non deve essere necessariamente lunga o super-strutturata. Potete inviarmi un pensiero, una piccola storia, non importa.

I am glad to announce a new section!
The name is "Stories&people". In particular, I'm going to start with a new column called:

"From A to Z"

Every week on Thursday, I am going to post a story about people I meet or people who would like to share their stories with me and, of course, with you. The stories have to show something positive, something good. It can be about your own life, your culture, a memory, a wish, a simple but personal thought.
Who can take part? Everybody.
You can write to me both in Italian or in English and send to me your story to:

It has not to be long or super-structured. You can just write a small paragraph, a thought, a short-story whatever.
I am going to read each of them. What matters is that they have to be true and yours.
